All lots are located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Confirmation of pickup or delivery of Iron Gate Commercial Auction winnings must be made within 60 days of auction close. Thereafter, your winnings will be subject to storage fees, including a $75 setup, subsequent $5.00/case/month and $1.25 per bottle fee for inventory services. If no contact has been made within two years, auction winnings will be considered abandoned.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all arrangements for insuring, packing and removing the property purchased and any assistance by the Auctioneer, or the employees of, agents or contractors in packing and removal shall be rendered as a courtesy and without any liability to them. The Auctioneer shall not be liable for any errors or omissions or damage caused by packers and shippers, notwithstanding the fact that the Auctioneer may have recommended such shippers or packers to the purchaser.
An Ontario-based collector, inspired by their father, who was also a wine enthusiast, began their own collection in the mid-1980s. Their father renovated the family’s ski chalet to include a dedicated wine cellar for the wine he purchased through a friend who was an importer representing Sandrone and Guigal. One of their fondest memories is lining up at 2:30 a.m. outside one of the five Vintage locations in Ontario to purchase both the 1989 and 1990 Petrus. The bottles being auctioned have remained with the original owner since acquisition and have only been moved once. They were initially stored in a wine fridge purchased from the Wine Establishment and later placed in the consignor’s home cellar, both temperature and humidity controlled.
The rating for 1990 Petrus Pomerolis 100 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 1990 Petrus remains incredibly young, one of the least evolved wines of the vintage (along with Montrose and Beausejour-Duffau). This dense ruby/purple-colored effort is beginning to hint at the massive richness and full-bodied intensity lurking beneath its wall of tannin. The vintage’s sweetness, low acidity, and velvety tannins are present in abundance, and the wine is massive in the mouth as well as incredibly pure and well-delineated. I thought it would be drinkable by now, but it appears another 5-10 years will pass before it begins to reach its plateau of maturity. This wine is capable of lasting at least four more decades.
