All lots are located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Confirmation of pickup or delivery of Iron Gate Commercial Auction winnings must be made within 60 days of auction close. Thereafter, your winnings will be subject to storage fees, including a $75 setup, subsequent $5.00/case/month and $1.25 per bottle fee for inventory services. If no contact has been made within two years, auction winnings will be considered abandoned.

 

It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all arrangements for insuring, packing and removing the property purchased and any assistance by the Auctioneer, or the employees of, agents or contractors in packing and removal shall be rendered as a courtesy and without any liability to them. The Auctioneer shall not be liable for any errors or omissions or damage caused by packers and shippers, notwithstanding the fact that the Auctioneer may have recommended such shippers or packers to the purchaser.

This consignor’s fascination with wine began with a deep appreciation for the history, craft, and regional diversity of the world's great producers. Over time, that curiosity turned into collecting exceptional bottles built to age. Built over several years, his collection was assembled gradually with an emphasis on provenance, careful selection, and long-term cellaring rather than immediate consumption. The majority of the cellar was acquired through Iron Gate Auctions, supplemented by select purchases from provincial boards—including the LCBO, BCL, and AGLC—and acquisitions made while traveling. Once acquired, the wines were kept in dedicated, temperature-controlled storage—safely protected from light and vibration—where they remained untouched until consignment to ensure optimal condition.
1996 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac from this lot has the following scores - Falstaff Magazine 100 points, Jeff Leve The Wine Cellar Insider 100 points. This is the tasting note for 1996 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac from Robert Parker - with a score of 98 points. The 1996 Lafite-Rothschild was remarkably deep in color considering that it is now 20 years in age. The bouquet is classic Pauillac with pencil shavings and sous-bois infusing the black fruit, masculine and a little aloof, yet focused and very well delineated. The palate is very well balanced with crisp blackberry and boysenberry fruit, spicier than I recollect, a crescendo of flavors so that it seems understated at first but fans out with a sense of confidence towards the finish. I think this still has more to give so cellar it away for another 5-8 years if you can, but otherwise this is an exemplary Lafite-Rothschild that I can envisage getting better and better in bottle, if not quite as enthralling as either Mouton-Rothschild or Château Margaux..
