This collection was built by the late husband of the consignor, who served as a General Manager within the luxury hotel sector for many years. His career in high-end hospitality allowed him to develop a deep expertise in wine and build personal relationships with international winemakers while hosting wine events at luxury properties worldwide. His acquired bottles directly from wineries while visiting Italy, France, California, and South Africa, as well as through reputable distributors and futures purchases. A conscientious collector, he ensured the wines were meticulously maintained in several dedicated wine refrigerators within the family home.
1998 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac from this lot has the following scores - Vinous 96 points, The Wine Advocate 96 points, Falstaff Magazine 96 points, Wine Spectator 95 points, Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 95 points, Decanter 95 points, Wine Spectator 94 points, CellarTracker 94 points, Jeff Leve The Wine Cellar Insider 94 points. This is the tasting note for 1998 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac from Robert Parker - A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 1998 Lafite Rothschild is deep garnet with a hint of brick and gorgeous notions of sandalwood, crème de cassis, smoked meats, black pepper and garrigue with touches of chargrill, dried herbs and mincemeat pie. Medium-bodied, soft and plush on the palate, it has tons of mouth-filling savory and plum preserves flavors and a very long, savory finish. Delicious now, it should keep for 15-20 more years.
