The consignor was introduced to wine by friends and colleagues in the early 1990s, just as Alberta privatized alcohol sales. His collecting began around 1994, sparked by the purchase of 1988 Château Margaux—his most expensive bottle at the time. Over the past 30+ years, he has purchased wines through the SAQ, auctions, private imports, and cellars. His temperature-controlled home cellar was built in the early '90s and has housed his collection from the very beginning, maintaining optimal storage conditions throughout.
1998 Bouchard Pere Fils Comte Liger Belair La Romanee Grand Cru from this lot has the following scores - CellarTracker 93 points, Vinous 92 points. This is the tasting note for 1998 Bouchard Pere Fils Comte Liger Belair La Romanee Grand Cru from Allen Meadows (Burghound) - Medium ruby. This is nothing short of phenomenal and may even one day outclass the other worldly '99 with it's sexy, stunning aromatic complexity and ultra pure nose featuring layers upon layers of black and red pinot and violot fruit mixed with dried rose petals and rich soil notes plus dazzling spiciness. The moderately structured flavors are buffered by superb extract and the sheer depth and breadth of flavors is amazing. To be sure, this is not especially massive and the tannins are presently not quite as well integrated as with the '99 but the potential here is extraordinary..
