This consignor’s fascination with wine began with a deep appreciation for the history, craft, and regional diversity of the world's great producers. Over time, that curiosity turned into collecting exceptional bottles built to age. Built over several years, his collection was assembled gradually with an emphasis on provenance, careful selection, and long-term cellaring rather than immediate consumption. The majority of the cellar was acquired through Iron Gate Auctions, supplemented by select purchases from provincial boards—including the LCBO, BCL, and AGLC—and acquisitions made while traveling. Once acquired, the wines were kept in dedicated, temperature-controlled storage—safely protected from light and vibration—where they remained untouched until consignment to ensure optimal condition.
1999 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Red from this lot has the following scores - Wine Spectator 97 points, Vinous 96 points, Wine Enthusiast 96 points, Richard Jennings 96 points, Adrian van Velsen - vvWine.ch 95 points. This is the tasting note for 1999 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Red from Robert Parker - When I visited Harlan, the blend for the 1999 had not yet been set, and I was only able to taste the Cabernet Sauvignon portion, which will be 80-90% of the final wine. It looks to be outstanding. Harlan Estate has converted to wood fermenters. That decision is interesting in view of the fact that many top Bordeaux chateaux discarded their wood fermenters 10-30 years ago in favor of temperature-controlled stainless steel..
