All lots are located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Confirmation of pickup or delivery of Iron Gate Commercial Auction winnings must be made within 60 days of auction close. Thereafter, your winnings will be subject to storage fees, including a $75 setup, subsequent $5.00/case/month and $1.25 per bottle fee for inventory services. If no contact has been made within two years, auction winnings will be considered abandoned.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all arrangements for insuring, packing and removing the property purchased and any assistance by the Auctioneer, or the employees of, agents or contractors in packing and removal shall be rendered as a courtesy and without any liability to them. This parcel of wine and spirits was brought to us by a long-time aficionado, who began collecting wine in 1981. His interest in collecting began during his career, where every successful business closure was celebrated with fine wine. His wines and spirits were purchased through the SAQ, LCBO, and US independent retailers, and were stored in his temperature and humidity-controlled home cellar before coming to auction.
The score for 2001 Roberto Voerzio La Serra Barolo DOCG is 94 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2001 Barolo La Serra is beautiful. It has also held up very well in this vintage. The firm La Serra tannins are still quite evident, while the wine’s aromatic profile retains plenty of freshness to match the big fruit and equally imposing underlying structure. Layers of fruit build effortlessly to the rich, textured finish. This is an incredibly fine Barolo for a vineyard that is not one of La Morra’s grand crus. Contrary to the vast majority of growers, Roberto Voerzio has always maintained that 2000 was a better vintage for him than 2001. After having tasted both vintages extensively over the last few years, its pretty clear Voerzio is right. The 2001s haven’t held up as well as the 2000s I reviewed last year and are developing at a faster pace. Not surprisingly, both of the Baroli Voerzio bottles only in magnum have developed particularly gracefully.
