This consignor from British Columbia has been a student of wine for over 30 years having been inspired by a mentor with a profound knowledge of Burgundy. Fairly early in his journey, he began to cellar his wine, a practice he has maintained. Frequent travels to California allowed him to acquire bottles of DRC from the Bay Area, while his purchases of Léoville Barton over the years have come from both Vancouver and Edmonton, sometimes even securing futures. He build and maintained a modest, custom-built cellar to properly store and preserve his selections.
The rating for 2003 DRC Echezeaux Grand Cru is 95 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Unquestionably the finest Echezeaux I have encountered from this famed estate, the 2003 explodes from the glass with candied raspberries, violet, and red cherries. Stunningly marrying elegance with richness and density, this medium to full-bodied wine is ample, pure, and velvety-textured. Loads of sweet red fruits are found in its persistent, sensual character. Drink it over the next 12-14 years.
