A Vancouver-based cellar who began collecting when Rauzan Segla and Bonnes Mares were accessible for under $10. The collector began dedicating any little bit of extra money he had to buying wine, primarily Bordeaux and Burgundy, and he never stopped. Nearly everything was purchased directly on release, from trusted retailers in BC, Alberta, Washington, California, and New York. Initially storing everything in a climate controlled home cellar, he expanded into professional storage some years ago. It recently became obvious that he had acquired far more wine that he could consume, and Iron Gate is delighted to work with this client to bring this collection to auction.
2005 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from this lot has the following scores - Falstaff Magazine 97 points, John Gilman's View from the Cellar 96 points, Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 96 points, Decanter 96 points, BurgHound.com 95 points, The Wine Advocate 95 points, James Suckling 95 points. This is the tasting note for 2005 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Allen Meadows - A ripe and classic nose of distinctly discreet and reserved green fruit and floral aromas that are airy, pure and lightly spiced merge into intense, precise and penetrating medium full flavors blessed with terrific acid/fruit balance and huge length. This is really a lovely wine that is presently a tightly coiled spring and in need of extended bottle aging to really put on display the superb potential here. An understated stunner of a wine as well as ultra refined and one of the best examples of this appellation in 2005.
