An offering from a long-time, Ontario-based cellar. With an interest in wine that spanned decades, the collector had the opportunity to taste broadly across across many classic and specialty styles. He began his cellar throughout the late 1980's and early 1990's, sourcing mainly from the LCBO, SAQ, trusted agencies, and some US retail stores. Throughout the years the wines were stored both professionally at Iron Gate as well as in temperature and humidity-controlled home cellars.
The score for 2010 Olivier Bernstein Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru is 96 from Burghound, Allen Meadows and the tasting note - This was brooding in barrel and now that it's in bottle it is still brooding with an introverted nose that allows itself to be evaluated only after aggressive swirling grudgingly liberates glimpses of earthy, spicy and gamy ripe wild red berry fruit aromas. There is outstanding intensity, richness and volume to the mouth coating broad-shouldered flavors that exude a fine minerality on the explosive and massively long finish. This very firmly structured effort is a definite 'wow' wine that should amply reward long-term cellaring. An old school Mazis. Additional scores for the wine in this lot - Vinous 96 points .
