A Vancouver-based cellar who began collecting when Rauzan Segla and Bonnes Mares were accessible for under $10. The collector began dedicating any little bit of extra money he had to buying wine, primarily Bordeaux and Burgundy, and he never stopped. Nearly everything was purchased directly on release, from trusted retailers in BC, Alberta, Washington, California, and New York. Initially storing everything in a climate controlled home cellar, he expanded into professional storage some years ago. It recently became obvious that he had acquired far more wine that he could consume, and Iron Gate is delighted to work with this client to bring this collection to auction.
2014 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from this lot has the following scores - Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 97 points, BurgHound.com 95 points, Vinous 95 points, Tim Atkin, MW 95 points, Adrian van Velsen - vvWine.ch 95 points. This is the tasting note for 2014 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Allen Meadows - A highly restrained nose features notes of cool and ultra-pure citrus, green apple, white flowers, herbal tea and wet stone. There is a distinctly racy mouth feel to the super intense and well-delineated medium weight plus flavors that are strikingly focused on the chiseled, clean, dry and moderately austere finale that delivers stunningly good complexity. I very much like this understated effort as it is an exercise in harmony and refinement and while there is the usual taut muscularity of a classic Corton-Charlemagne, it certainly doesn't lack for elegance either. In a word, sublime.. 2015 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from this lot has the following scores - Vinous 95 points, BurgHound.com 94 points, The Wine Advocate 93 points, CellarTracker 93 points. This is the tasting note for 2015 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Robert Parker - The 2015 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Bonneau du Martray reveals a youthful nose of citrus zest, white flowers, tart pineapple and struck flint, framed by some spicy new oak. On the palate, this full-bodied wine reveals tension and definition that it seemed to miss in barrel, its glossy attack now backed by a nicely chalky structure and a deep, properly reserved core. This will need some time in the bottle to integrate, but its evolution is very promising, and while this is unusually rich and concentrated those qualities don't come at the expense of terroir.. 2016 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from this lot has the following scores - Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 96 points, Tim Atkin, MW 96 points, Vinous 95 points, Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy 95 points, The Wine Advocate 94 points. This is the tasting note for 2016 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Robert Parker - The 2016 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is showing superbly from bottle, unwinding in the glass with a classy bouquet of crisp green apple, pears, almond paste, fresh pastry and Meyer lemon. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and precise, with serious depth, tangy acidity, and chewy structuring dry extract while remaining elegantly textural. Intense and complete, it's an immensely promising wine which augers well for Bonneau du Martray's future..
