This consignor, who was Cellerier for the Confreie des Chevaliers du Tastevin for 10 years and the Grand Senechal for 5 years, began collecting wine in 1985, after he worked in Switzerland with a professor and Burgundy enthusiast. A visit to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti to pick up a mixed case of 1985 DRC—and tasting a 1962 Richebourg—sealed his passion for fine wine. His collection was sourced primarily on release, either in Europe, Western Canada, or the U.S. Wines requiring long-term aging are stored in a passive underground cellar in Whistler, kept at 40–48°F with 45–55% humidity. Shorter-term bottles are held in a second underground cellar at home, averaging 52°F and 50% humidity. He also maintains a cellar at his farm in Sweden, dedicated mainly to white Burgundy and white Rhône wines, purchased at source and transported directly from France. Due to the high humidity (97%) and low average temperature (38°F), bottles there are wrapped in plastic to protect the labels—conditions that provide near-perfect aging for whites.

This is the tasting note for 1993 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from Wine Spectator - Great winemaking. With its full-blown Burgundian treatment, this seems very oaky at first, but underneath are clearly defined, compacted, pure fruit, spice and herb flavors--pear, mango, lemon, lime, cilantro--that build to a powerful, refreshing, silky finish. Tempting now, but try to wait. Best after 2000. 1990 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from this lot has the following scores - Wine Spectator 93 points, CellarTracker 91 points. This is the tasting note for 1990 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from Allen Meadows - This is admirably fresh even though the nose is completely mature, indeed the aromas are full-on secondary in character and are beginning to display hints of sous-bois along with the grilled almond, dried flower and exotic yellow fruit hints. There is excellent verve and fine detail to the solidly mineral-inflected, cool and beautifully detailed flavors that possess fine length and very good if not truly sensational depth. The finish is beginning to lean out ever-so-mildly and while this isn't going to fall off of a cliff anytime soon as it should continue to hold well, it's clear that this should be consumed over the next decade. 1991 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from this lot has the following scores - The Wine Advocate 91 points, CellarTracker 90 points. This is the tasting note for 1991 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from Robert Parker - The superb 1991 Meursault-Clos de la Barre is as compelling as the magnificent 1989. It was put in the bottle unfined and unfiltered, so do not be surprised by any sediment that forms within the next 6-12 months. The wine offers up a magnificent nose of minerals, buttery apples, and spring flowers. Honeyed, rich, and full-bodied, this deep, layered wine exhibits low acidity, as well as sensational balance and depth. 1992 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from this lot has the following scores - CellarTracker 91 points, Wine Spectator 90 points. This is the tasting note for 1992 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Clos de la Barre Meursault from Robert Parker - This site often ages as well or better than some of Lafon's premiers crus, and the 1992 Meursault Clos de la Barre is still drinking beautifully at age 30. Wafting from the glass with aromas of white peach, confit citrus, drawn butter, almond paste and flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit underpinned by lively acids. If you're holding this, there's really no reason to wait.
