The collector’s passion for wine began in the early 1990s through a focus on food pairings, evolving into an extensive study of wine history and regular travels throughout the premier growing regions of Italy, France, Napa, and Sonoma. She completed the International Sommelier Guild Wine Fundamentals Level 1 and Level 2 certificates in 2002. Discerning the critical importance of temperature and humidity control, she initially kept her collection in a standalone wine cooler before transferring it to a custom, professionally built basement wine cellar constructed during a 2006 home renovation. She acquired all of her high-end allocations from The Wine Cellar in Edmonton and has meticulously maintained them in this pristine, climate-controlled environment ever since.
1996 Chateau Margaux from this lot has the following scores - The Wine Advocate 100 points. This is the tasting note for 1996 Chateau Margaux from Robert Parker - with a score of 98 points. When I used to drink this wine as a student, it generally left me a bit cold, but several recent bottles of the 1996 Château Margaux lead me to think that I must have had bad luck with a poorly stored batch of bottles. Along with Haut-Brion, Margaux is the most forward of the 1996 first growths, offering up an expressive bouquet of creamy cassis fruit mingled with cigar wrapper, sweet spices, espresso roast and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, suave and fleshy, with melting tannins and a long, expansive finish, it's in a beautiful place today.
